Mere Being

Marta González is a Spanish artist based in London. Her relationship with printmaking since the technicality of her Master’s at the Complutense University of Madrid and her broad experience printing for contemporary artists in London shaped and later reaffirmed the argument of her practice. She is always involved with the artwork revealing gestures and thoughts captured during its realization as an inherent element of the process.

“At times during my childhood, my uncle would share philosophical reflections on human existence that influenced my perspective on life and continue to inspire my abstract work”.

In her recent work, translucent pieces of tarlatan scrim overlap in layers of colour, depicting states of mind. These geometric shapes of fabric that leave their frayed imprint on paper represent perceptions, emotions and memories in the same way experiences mark our innermost selves. Her pieces invite the viewer to reflect on how the modern way of enduring life affects the fragility of the mere being.
